Catching Up and Planning for 2025

It’s happened again. It’s been over a month and a half since I last wrote here.

I need to be honest and share everything I’ve been working on and use this opportunity to outline my plans for 2025, even if things don’t go exactly as planned.

In September, I lost my job. It wasn’t pleasant, but on the other hand, it was something I secretly wanted. I used the push to make a crazy decision: I enrolled in a year-and-a-half-long university program in video game design and development.

Yes, it’s a bit crazy. But if I want to dedicate myself to video game development, I have to go all in.

The original idea was to live off my unemployment benefits and dedicate this year solely to my studies. But being the restless person I am, I’ve ended up with a year-and-a-half of university, a part-time job, and several side projects in progress.

Regarding the job, it’s a part-time position as a frontend developer building Shopify stores. It’s convenient that it’s part-time, allowing me to organize myself around my other commitments and responsibilities. The downside is that the client is foreign, which requires me to become self-employed.

The university program takes up most of my time. Classes, coursework, exercises, activities… I’m managing, but I’m tired.

I have quite a few side projects. From proof-of-concepts to more serious projects. The workload has forced me to prematurely close some things, such as the Flantastic Café Run project, which I won’t be putting any more effort into.

I participated in a game jam and made a game that, while original and cool, didn’t go anywhere. I need to find time to finish and publish it, and also share the experience here.

I have a 2D game engine in development. However, it’s been on hold since the last time I wrote about it here.

I started a task management SaaS project. Why? Because I needed something like this for specific use cases, and since I couldn’t find anything suitable, I decided to build it myself. I’d like to finish and publish it. It has nothing to do with video games… but oh well.

I have a mobile game started but also on hold.

I have a very cool project that has recently started to gain momentum, which I can’t talk about yet, but I hope it will be my flagship project for 2025.

I have a game studio that I need to formalize and talk about.

I have a YouTube channel that I’d like to dedicate some time to.

I have a Minecraft world I built gathering dust. It’s a project I want to use for educational purposes to explain concepts, either here or on YouTube.

And of course, I have my website, which I want to dedicate more time to and give a facelift for 2025.

With all of this and a few other things swirling around in my head, it’s very difficult to focus and find time to write. That’s why in 2025, I want to organize myself and accept that it doesn’t make sense to do more than three things at once, at least in terms of projects.

Therefore, I want to create a schedule and be clear about what I’m starting with. Obviously, university and work are the two things I absolutely have to keep up with, and then choose one project.

For now, this will be my organization for the beginning of the year:

  • University
  • Work
  • Flagship project 2025
  • Blog
  • YouTube

The blog and YouTube are two things I want to prioritize. I’ve already set an alarm to write something on the blog every Friday. And for YouTube, I want to start by publishing one video per month, without putting too much pressure on myself.

And that’s it… slowly but surely moving forward. I hope to write more consistently in the following posts. Now comes Christmas week, and I want to rest and recharge for this new beginning of the year.

Let’s go for it!
